Former Speaker Jose de Venecia and Mushahid Hussain Sayed, founding chair and standing committee member, respectively, of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (Icapp), endorsed President Aquino’s “effort to achieve final peace with the MILF.”

Icapp represents more than 300 ruling and opposition political parties in 52 states in Asia.

“Sometimes, it is beneficial for heads of government themselves to intervene—to create breakthroughs—when peace negotiations are stalled or moving with difficulty,” they said, adding:

“We support President Aquino’s peace outreach to the MILF—a splendid act of statesmanship—to seek with MILF chair Murad Ebrahim ‘a peace of the brave’…”
